Abubaker Mayanja – Managing Partner
Abubaker is the Managing Partner of ABL Associates. He has been involved in the various aspects of asset management, finance and investment advisory for clients in Uganda and Internationally for over 8 years. He has provided financial and investment advisory services to individuals and institutions in Uganda and Internationally. This has involved preparation of transaction material including business plans, financial models and information memorandum to allow sell of businesses.
Previously, he was Investment Manager at Housing Finance Bank, Head of Investment Banking at UAP (formerly Made in Africa Investment Bank), a Research Fellow at Economic Policy Research Centre in Uganda and a Course Leader at Leicester Business Academy including a role as a Lecturer on the academy’s Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) course.
He holds a BSc (Quantitative Economics) from Makerere University, Uganda and an MSc (Financial Economics) from Leicester University, UK.
He also has a Certificate in Econometrics of Programme Evaluation from Centre for Study of African Economies, University of Oxford.

Harunah Muwanga – Partner
Harunah is a Partner at ABL Associates. He is also the Founder and Managing Director of HRN Business Services, a firm specializing in outsourced accounting, property and asset management, business consultation and advisory. Prior to this, he worked as a Financial Analyst with UBS Global Asset Management where he monitored and reported on Real Estate Investment Portfolios. Prior to joining UBS, he gained experience in providing audit assistance while working with PWC in the USA where he provided audit assistance for companies in the retail, manufacturing, real estate and investment industries. This gave solid knowledge of internal control testing and documentation, preparation of financial statements to GAAP and IFRS.
Elsewhere, he has gained experience from operating, managing and facilitating businesses in the hotel and leisure sector, manufacturing and car industries.
Harunah holds a BSc (Accounting) and an MBA from University of Hartford, USA.
Varun Punjabi – Associate
Varun is an Associate with ABL Associates where he is responsible for undertaking turnaround for businesses, undertaking research and analysis, conducting due diligence and valuations, relationship management and sales as part of ABL Associates’ service offering across Advisory, Capital Raising and Placement sections of the business. Varun has over 5 years’ experience in the field of finance and investments including operation and management of businesses, marketing, sales and business strategy. He was Director of Balaji Impex Ltd. a retail/wholesale electrical goods business in Uganda where he was responsible for daily running of the business including driving sales, marketing, resourcing, building relationships and networks including contributing to expansion of the business into Kenya. Prior to that, he was Associate Accountant at GM Punjabi and Co. Ltd. in Mauritius responsible for preparing annual books of accounts for the business including strategic and financial analysis of performance. He has also gained experience in marketing, working with Fortress Marketing Ltd. where he carried out market surveys to help position the business.
Varun holds a BSc (Honours) in Accounting and Finance from London School of Economics, UK.
Jamil Bujaasi Junior – start-up associate
Jamil is an Associate with ABL Associates. He has over 6 years hands-on experience in the IT Sector & E-Commerce environment while in the United Kingdom . Previously, he managed businesses in the retail sector where he accumulated knowledge and functionally relevant management experience.
Jamil holds two diplomas in information technology from Crawford College PTA in Pretoria, South Africa. He is currently pursuing the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) certifications in Uganda
Karen Legesi – Analyst
Karen is an Analyst with ABL Associates where she is responsible for undertaking research and analysis, conducting due diligence, relationship management and sales. Prior to joining ABL Associates, she worked with Barclays Bank and National Insurance Corporation (NIC) in Uganda with experience in sales and marketing.
Karen holds a BA Economics (Honours) from Makerere University, Uganda and a Post graduate Certificate in Project Management from Uganda Management Institute.
